The other day I was at a local hardware store picking up a wintergreen plant in their nursery section. It was hard to find because everywhere I looked I saw tomatoes, squash, basil, and peppers. I was incredibly disappointed by this.
Why? You might ask. Because where I live it is simply too early to plant these heat loving vegetables outdoors, unprotected. Period.
This is just one of the things I teach my clients when they go through the Food Warrior Mentorship program with me.
I find it a little maddening that stores will sell products like these without a care in the world that these plants will likely get frost damage, or worse. I can teach you how to be a discerning consumer of nursery vegetables and herbs. I can also teach you about season extenders to make it possible to plant heat-loving crops earlier in the spring to get a jump on the season.
